  1. Skylar!!!! Your poem moved me in so many ways. Yesterday was such a historical day but there is so much more that needs to be done. This verdict was just taking into action the accountability, that justice will be made when actual change occurs in the law enforcement. I absolutely loved how some of your words were in different fonts and bolded because it made them stand out and catch the reader’s eye. I think it is so important that you wrote about this because it relates to the murders of those 150 slaves in the Zong massacre. That history repeats itself. There is also the fact that Ma’Khia Bryant, a sixteen-year-old, was shot four times in the chest yesterday and killed at almost the exact same time as the George Flyod verdict. It just proves the fact that white people have so much privilege. That black people are fearful every time they leave their house; not knowing if they will live to make it to work or the grocery store. I love how you used the white space as buffers to let the message sink in. One of my favorite lines in your poem was, “Chauvin testify 5th Amendment / Privilege / Chauvin Acted Reasonable and Lawful.” These lines really stood out to me because it shows the privilege that white people have. It shows that it is crazy to think that it took an entire year to have a case that was just based on common sense; that the video itself shows exactly the fact that this was murder and not reasonable or lawful.
